SHELBYVILLE, IN—MAY 31, 2018—Eight races will be featured on the first all-Quarter Horse racing night of 2018 at Indiana Grand Saturday, June 2, including the $90,100 Harley Greene Derby.

Slated as the final race on the card, the event tags DNA Dalesblackbueaty as the favorite of the 10-horse field.

Starting from post two, DNA Dalesblackbueaty led early on in her trial before being caught at the wire by Kitty Sixup to finish second. The three-year-old daughter of Brookstone Bay will be ridden once again by Rodney Prescott in the final at odds of 5-2 for Indiana Grand’s all-time leading Quarter Horse trainer Randy Smith and DNA Quarter Horses.

Smith will saddle four in the Greene Derby final, including the second choice on the morning line, Beach Mercedes, who begins her quest from post nine with Jose Beltran aboard. The Escondido Beach filly was an easy winner in her trial and will seek her second win of the season in her third start for owner-breeder Sheri Miller.

Sixes Loaded to Fly, with Cesar Esqueda aboard, was closing in on Beach Mercedes in the trial to finish third and will look to get the largest part of the purse from post five. The Sixes Liaison gelding from the Tony Cunningham barn has been selected as third choice on the morning line at odds of 5-1. Duke Racing Stable owns Sixes Loaded to Fly.

The quickest qualifier in the two trials for the Greene Derby was Kitty Sixup from the Erin Thompson barn. The three-year-old grey son of Sixes Liaison rallied home in the 350-yard sprint for a time of :17.825 to top the list of qualifiers for the final. Owned by Deane Lehman and Thompson, Kitty Sixup will begin from post six with Samuel Mendez up for the first time. They have been selected as the fourth choice in the field at odds of 5-1.

The entire field for the $90,100 Harley Greene Derby, with jockey and odds, are listed in post position order: MPT Visions of Mars (Gerardo Garrido, 12-1); DNA Dalesblackbueaty (Rodney Prescott, 5-2); Beach Treat (Aron Hunt, 8-1); BV Running Bear (Berkley Packer, 10-1); Sixes Loaded to Fly (Cesar Esqueda, 5-1); Kitty Sixup (Samuel Mendez, 5-1); Eyem Sixes (Ronald Hisby, 20-1); LF Curly (Shanley Jackson, 15-1); Beach Mercedes (Jose Beltran, 7-2); DNA Bells Bay (Luis Guerrero, 30-1). Estimated post time for the fourth running of the Harley Greene Derby is 9:21 p.m.

The eight-race card is the first of six offered during the 2018 racing season for all Quarter Horse racing at Indiana Grand. Other dates include July 7, Aug. 11, Sept. 15, Oct. 6 and Oct. 27. All Quarter Horse dates are Saturday evening events with a first post time of 6:05 p.m.
