Bh Lisas Boy And Zoomin For Spuds Head Trials To Grade 1 Vessels Maturity

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—JUNE 15, 2018—Led by 2017 Vessels Maturity winner BH Lisas Boy, the top aged runners on the grounds will be in action in the trials to the Grade 1 $170,500 Vessels Maturity, which headline the nine-race Father's Day program on Sunday at Los Alamitos.

Three 400-yard trials will be contested with the horses with the 10 fastest times advancing to the richest running of the Vessels Maturity since 2012.

Owned, trained, and bred by Bill Hoburg, BH Lisas Boy has already successfully defended one of his stakes titles this year. The son of Mighty Invictus won the Brad McKinzie Los Alamitos Winter Championship on February 11, the second straight year he's won the premier race for older horses during the winter portion of the meet at Los Alamitos.

To be ridden by Cesar De Alba, BH Lisas Boy will be in action in the third trial on Sunday and will face several familiar foes like 2016 Champion of Champions winner Zoomin For Spuds, who ran second in this year's Brad McKinzie before returning to outduel BH Lisas Boy in the Moonist Handicap on May 5. Monty Arrossa will saddle Zoomin For Spuds, who'll be ridden by Jesus Rios Ayala for owner Jim Walker.

This trial will also feature EG High Desert Farms' Jess Hawk, the only mare among the 20 horses competing in the Vessels Maturity trials. The talented Jess Hawk ran third in the Brad McKinzie and has since won the Miss Princess Handicap and finished second in the Mini Rock Handicap and Terrific Energy Handicap.

Lucky Seven Ranch's Lotta Blues Man, a Grade 1 winner during his 2-year-old campaign and third place finisher in last year's Grade 2 Southern California Derby, will also be in action in this division of the Vessels trials. LD Is Back, sixth in the Brad McKinzie, and Doctor Fantastic will also race.

O-So Smart LLC's Katies Easy Moves, the winner of the 2017 First Down Dash Handicap and five of his last seven starts, will head the opening trial. The Arrossa-trained Maknmoves gelding will take on a talented cast that includes Billionaire Boy, Seared, Tarzanito, all recent allowance winners at Los Alamitos. Ed Allred's Seared cruised to his allowance victory win by 2 1/4 lengths at 550-yards on March 18, while Tarzanito won at 350 and Billionaire Boy at 330. Multiple graded stakes winner Rite Regal, Branquino, and Cucuro will complete the field.

Paul Blanchard and Dutch Masters III's Katella Deli heads the second trial of the night following his wire-to-wire allowance win on May 25. The runner-up in last year's Grade 1 Los Alamitos Super Derby, Katella Deli will take on a field that features major stakes winners Unclaimed Dividend, Uno Corona Mas, and Flash N Bling. Renewed, second in PCQHRA Breeders Derby, and stakes winner Captain Takeoff round out the field in second trial.
