Kevin Cox to Appear During Quarter Horse Stakes Night at Indiana Grand Racing & Casino

SHELBYVILLE, IN—JULY 4, 2018—Kevin Cox, nationally known on-air racing analyst and handicapper, will make a special appearance at Indiana Grand Racing & Casino Saturday, July 7 as part of a special Quarter Horse Stakes Night. The evening is dedicated to all-Quarter Horse racing featuring the $40,000 Bradford Stakes, the $50,000 Indiana Grand QHRAI Derby and trials for the upcoming Blue River Derby and Heartland Futurity. First post is set at 6:05 p.m.

Cox, who hails from the New York City area and is tagged as the "Brooklyn Cowboy," is well versed in all types of horse racing. A public handicapper for Saratoga Bets, he once gave out a $206 winner and has shown a flat bet profit several times He also provides the "Beatable Favorite" in his daily write-ups on social media and has more than 6,000 loyal followers on Twitter who use his bets daily.

In addition to providing handicapping tips for others, Cox is a national renowned tournament contestant and a nine-time National Horseplayers Championship qualifier, finishing third in the country during the 2013 event.

He provides on-air handicapping at Kentucky Downs and has conducted seminars across the United States from Santa Anita and Emerald Downs on the West Coast to Arlington in Chicago and the New York tracks. He was a cast member of the Esquire Channel's "Horseplayers" reality show series that aired in 2014.

Off the track, Cox is very involved in several charities. He is an advisory board member of the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance and Old Friends at Cabin Creek and owns a rescued greyhound racing dog. Prior to his commitment to horse racing, Cox served as a NYPD Mounted Officer and rode a descendant of Northern Dancer while on patrol.

Cox will join Indiana Grand's on-air racing analyst Rachel McLaughlin for the "Wire to Wire" show to kick Quarter Horse Stakes Night off and then will be available for one on one assistance with racing fans near the winner's circle. The Quarter Horse Racing Association of Indiana (QHRAI) will provide t-shirt giveaways plus $2 race wagers to the first 100 fans that visit Cox. He will also provide on-air analysis of the eight race card that concludes with the 20th running of the $40,000 Bradford Stakes and the 24th running of the $50,000 Indiana Grand QHRAI Derby, slated as the seventh and eighth races, respectively.

The Bradford Stakes features several local fan favorites, including Tommy The Train, Woop Dee Doo and Stink Rich. Tommy The Train, who established a new track record last year for 400-yards at Indiana Grand, comes into the race for his first start since competing in the Grade I $100,000 Leo Stakes at Remington Park. The four-year-old Freighttrain B gelding, owned by Brant and Jon Barley and Brad Sharp, is a perfect six for six at Indiana Grand. He is trained by Larry Sharp and will begin from post six in the eight-horse lineup with seasoned veteran Berkley Packer aboard.

Providing some stiff competition for Tommy The Train is another local standout Woop Dee Doo. The sorrel five-year-old gelded son of Good Reason SA comes into the race off an impressive two and three-quarter length allowance win at Indiana Grand in early June. Owned and trained by Ricardo Martinez of Chicago, Woop Dee Doo has won three of his five starts at Indiana Grand. He begins his journey from post four with Sergio Ramirez aboard.

Also proving to be a major contender in the race is the Indiana bred Stinkin Rich, a winner in 10 of his 18 career starts. The grey son of One Famous Eagle is among the state's all-time top five richest products and will be making his first start of 2018 in the Bradford Stakes. Trained by Matt Frazier for owner-breeder Carolyn Bruce of Lawrenceburg, Ind., Stinkin Rich is also a multiple stakes winner at Indiana Grand and a former track record holder. The flashy six-year-old has more than $441,000 in career earnings and will be ridden by Shanley Jackson from post three.

The full field for the $40,000 Bradford Stakes, in post position order with jockey, includes:

Quarter Horse Stakes Night is one of six nights dedicated to the sprinters in 2018. Other upcoming all-Quarter Horse racing nights include Aug. 11, Sept. 15, Oct. 6 and Oct. 27, all Saturday evening racing programs with a first post of 6:05 p.m.

The 16th season of Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse racing continues through Wednesday, Nov. 7. Racing is conducted Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday at 2:05 p.m. EST with Saturday racing beginning at 6:05 p.m. EST. Two special Thursday racing dates will be held July 19 and Sept. 6 with a 2:05 p.m. EST post time.
