RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—AUGUST 28, 2018—Rogelio Marquez Jr. and Kathy Robinson’s Rainbow Derby first-place finisher Political Attraction, the sole three-year-old in the field, takes on older horses in the Grade 1, $200,000 All American Gold Cup at 440 yards on Saturday.

The Saturday program is highlighted by the Grade 1, $1,237,604 All American Derby.

First post time is noon on Friday through Monday, closing day of the summer Ruidoso Downs’ season.

Political Attraction has crossed the finish line first in three consecutive races, including the Grade 1, $802,000 Rainbow Derby.

Sent off at the 8-5 favorite in the Rainbow Derby, the Apollitical Jess-sired gelding drew out to a one-length margin in the Rainbow Derby, his latest start. His Rainbow Derby trial win was his Ruidoso Downs debut after competing in Oklahoma.

The Marcos Carrizales trained Political Attraction has won eight of 13 career starts and earned $676,563.

James A. Flores rides Political Attraction with the third post position.

Double A Ranch, Inc.’s Paint My Pilot, a four-year-old gelding by Pyc Paint Your Wagon, won the Grade 2, $50,000 Mr Jet Moore Handicap on August 4 by a head over Bodacious Eagle. The Mr Jet Moore, traditionally, is the final stakes prep race for the All American Gold Cup.

Paint My Pilot came to Ruidoso Downs after finishing a close third in the $50,000 Bob Moore Stakes at Remington Park in April.

Trainer Jorge Gonzalez has regular rider Yourdanis Amaro on Paint My Pilot.

Rounding out the Gold Cup field is Brigand Stakes winner Rock About It, Ruidoso Derby winner Tough To Bee, Southern California Derby winner Mr Apollitical Dash, Texas Classic Futurity winner High Plains Perry, Leo Stakes runner-up Firing Tools, 2017 Higheasterjet Handicap winner Bodacious Eagle, Brigand Stakes runner-up In Class and 2018 Higheasterjet winner Myst Fit.
