RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—SEPTEMBER 3, 2018—Mark and Annette McCloy’s homebred Mm Fourinthemorning, the top-ranked two-year-old quarter horse nationally, leads three horses from the Blane Wood stable in the Grade 1, $3,000,000 All American Futurity today (Monday) at Ruidoso Downs.

Monday’s Labor Day program concludes the summer season at Ruidoso Downs. First post time is noon on Friday through Monday.

Also of Monday’s card is the $200,000 All American Juvenile. The All American Futurity runs as the 10th race with the All American Juvenile going as the eighth race.

Thoroughbreds compete in three stakes races on Labor Day, headed by the undefeated Hustle Up in the $110,094 Rio Grande Senor Futurity.

The 440-yard All American Futurity pays out the largest purse in quarter horse racing. The finalists were determined through two days of trials with 16 440-yard trials on each day. The horses with the five-fastest times on each day advance to the All American Futurity. The horses with the next five-fastest times on each day may race in the All American Juvenile.

Mm Fourinthemorning, named after the time he was born, vaulted to the top of the quarter horse racing two-year-old division with an eye-catching victory in the Grade 1, $1,000,000 Rainbow Futurity in July. Starting from the outside post position — the same post position he has in the All American Futurity — he accelerated down the track and won the 400-yard Rainbow Futurity by a growing three quarters of a length and showing that the 440 yards of the All American Futurity would suit his running style.

A gelding by Mr Jess Perry, proved his 440-yard ability in the All American Futurity trials when he rolled to an easy two-and-one-quarter-length win. He went off at 1-9 odds.

“We were hoping for the number 10 post position,” said jockey Ricky Ramirez, who rode each of the three Wood-trained runners in the trials and chose to ride Mm Fourinthemorning. “I just hope for the same outcome as the Rainbow (Futurity). Hopefully, the big crowd doesn’t bother him, but it didn’t in the Rainbow. It just wasn’t quite as large.”

Mm Fourinthemorning is the 3-1 favorite on the morning line.

The two other Wood-trained runners are Apocalyptical Jess, the 7/2 second choice on the morning line, and Badhabit Jess.

Bill Robbins’ Apocalyptical Jess could be dangerous, especially from the second post position.

Two starts ago, in his Rainbow Futurity trial, he had a difficult run that ended up showing his upside. He had trouble at the start and was racing behind horses. Ramirez was able to take him to the outside, move him around horses and rally to grab second-place. He was beaten by only a neck.

In his All American Futurity trial, Apocalyptical Jess started from the inside post position. The gelding by Apollitical Jess got an excellent start and ran down the rail to win by three-and-one-quarter lengths in :21.349, the top time on the first day of trials.

Apocalyptical Jess has the second post position in the All American Futurity so a scenario like his trial could play out.

Ramirez said it was a tough decision, but decided to ride Mm Fourinthemorning. Raul Ramirez Jr. picked up the mount on Apocalyptical Jess.

La Feliz Montana Ranch’s Badhabit Jess, a $25,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale purchase, starts next to Mm Fourinthemorning in the ninth post position. Hall of Fame jockey G.R. Carter Jr. picked up the mount on Badhabit Jess.

Badhabit Jess, a gelding by Mr Jess Perry, won his maiden in his fourth start when he won his trial by a head. He was second in his Ruidoso Futurity trial and then a troubled fourth in his Rainbow Futurity trial.

Grant Farms, LLC’s homebred Pilot Points Moon had yet to make a start a month ago and now is the top qualifier on the second day of trials with a :21.520 time. Mm Fourinthemorning was the day’s second-fastest qualifier at :21.648.

One of three First Moonflash-sired offspring in the All American Futurity, Pilot Points Moon won his first start on August 4 in a maiden race. He ran 300 yards in :15.259 to win by a neck.

Trainer Wes Giles brought Pilot Points Moon back in the All American Futurity trials and he made an impressive step forward with his one-and-one-half length trial win.

Adrian A. Ramos has ridden Pilot Points Moon in each of his starts and is on the gelding with the fifth post position.

In the All American Juvenile, J & SM, Inc.’s Rustys Miracle is the solid 2-1 morning-line favorite. The $61,000 Ruidoso Select Sale Yearling purchase rides a three-race winning streak.

Trained by Fred Danley, Rustys Miracle started the winning streak with a victory in her Rainbow Futurity trial and then won the $100,000 Rainbow Juvenile by one-half length. The daughter of Valiant Hero won her All American Futurity trial by a neck with a :21.695 time.
