Trials Dominate Friday Action at Prairie Meadows

ALTOONA, IA—SEPTEMBER 25, 2018—Weetonas Lafawn, a bay daughter of Valiant Hero and two-time stakes winner during the Remington Park spring meet, is one of 28 3-year-olds entered in four 400-yard Altoona Derby trials at Prairie Meadows on Friday.

Trained by Clint Crawford for owner Donald Cavenaugh, Weetonas Lafawn will be making her first start since May 28, when she scored an 8-1 upset victory in the 350-yard, $55,000 Jack Brooks Stakes (R) for Oklahoma-breds. The filly also scored a three-quarter length win at odds of 28-1 in the 350-yard, $66,000 Mr Master Bug Stakes (R) at Remington on April 21.

Bonifacio Quiroz will ride Weetonas Lafawn from post 7 in the second trial.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the October 13, $100,000-est. Altoona Derby final.

Also on Friday, 21 Iowa-bred juveniles have been entered in three 350-yard Jim Bader Futurity (R) trials.

Lil Quick Wagon, a homebred son of Lil Kool Wagon, drew post 5 and will be ridden by Jorge Torres in the second heat. Trained by Stacy Charette-Hill for owners Michael A. Pohl and Bob Urich, the gelding is coming off of a second-place finish, a half of a length behind winner Lil Iza Baby, in the 350-yard, $84,000 Iowa Stallion Futurity (R) on September 2.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the $175,000-est. Jim Bader Futurity final on October 13.
