110 Juveniles To Race In Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity Trials On Sunday Night

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—NOVEMBER 22, 2018—Thirteen races featuring a total of 110 juveniles will make up a huge night of trials to the Grade 1, $1,878,425 Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity on Sunday at Los Alamitos. First post is 5:15 p.m. The racing program will also a feature three Pick Four wagers. The early Pick Four sequence will take place in races one through four, while the middle Pick Four will begin in race number six. The late Pick Four will start in race number 10.

The horses with the 10 fastest times in the 400-yard trials will advance to the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity final to be held on the meet's closing night on Sunday, December 16. The Two Million Futurity is California's richest race of any breed in 2018.

The list of runners set to compete in the trials is among the deepest and strongest in the 24-year history of this race. Five major Los Alamitos futurity winners are among the runners vying for a spot in the final, plus 43 other runners with stakes experience will also race.

The futurity winners in action are Grade 1 Golden State Million Futurity winner Flash And Roll, Grade 1 Ed Burke Million Futurity winner Wave Her Down, Grade 2 PCQHRA Breeders Futurity winner Cole Man 47, Grade 2 Robert Adair Kindergarten Futurity winner Wicked Affair and Governor's Cup Futurity winner Political Favorite. In addition to the California-based horses that have raced in grade 1 and grade 2 futurity finals here, the trials have also lured finalists from major races like the Rainbow Futurity, Heritage Place Futurity, Ruidoso Futurity, West Texas Futurity, La Fiesta Futurity and Cowboys Futurity.

The opening trial of the night is among the toughest as it has drawn five runners with stakes experience led by Jeff and Kim Pitcher's Wave Her Down and Matthew Dunn's Golden State Million third place finisher Apollitical Pence. Wave Her Down, a full-sister to World Champion Wave Carver and champion Ocean Runaway, began her career with three stellar victories, but she's been unlucky ever since her Ed Burke victory. She bobbled at the start of her PCQHRA Breeders Futurity trial and ended up fourth and then broke through the gate before her Golden State Million trial before running far back in third place.

Ramon Sanchez gets the assignment aboard Wave Her Down for the first time when he pilots her from post number seven in this trial.

To be ridden by Saul Ramirez, Jr. for trainer Monty Arrossa, Apollitical Pence has put together a solid campaign. While he did finish last in the Ed Burke final, he returned with a solid trial win to the Golden State and then ran a super race when only beaten by Flash And Roll and Jess Macho Corona in the $977,000 final.

One horse to watch in this heat is Ed Allred's Deceiver, who has hit the board in all six of her starts this season. She's won her last two outings, including a ¾ length decision on November 3 over a field that included Kindergarten Futurity finalist Pack Light. Eulices Gomez will pilot Deceiver from the outside post for trainer James Glenn, Jr.

Scott Bryant's Flash And Roll, who has been scintillating in her two Los Alamitos starts, will headline the third trial. The First Moonflash filly won her Golden State trial by two lengths and then returned to win the final in wire-to-wire fashion by a half-length.

The filly previously posted wire-to-wire wins in her trials to the Grade 1 Ruidoso Futurity and Grade 1 All American Futurity. Her only blemish in five career starts came in the Ruidoso final when she broke out from post nine on the way finish seventh. With $440,255 in earnings and her overall form, Flash And Roll is one the marquee names racing tonight. The great G.R. Carter will ride the Julianna Hawn Holt-bred filly.

Richard Frandsen's Favorite Motion, who posted the fastest qualifying time to the Golden State final before running fourth in the final, will have a chance to avenge that loss when he takes on Flash And Roll in the third heat. Cruz Mendez will be aboard for trainer Jose Flores.

Raymundo Medrano and Valeriano Racing Stables' My Mystery Lover, who ran in the Grade 1 Rainbow Futurity and is a perfect two-for-two since arriving at Los Alamitos, will also be a part of this trial heat. Ramon Sanchez will ride the Jaime Gomez-trained runner from post number one. Rosenthal Ranch's Jess Bein Me, the runner-up in the PCQHRA Breeders Futurity, will also compete in this iron-tough trial.

La Feliz Montana Ranch's Lethal Lil and Bobby Cox and KAP Racing Stables' Unlymited will square off in the seventh trial on Sunday. Lethal Lil crossed the wire second in the Rainbow, but was disqualified and placed 10th due to interference. The Corona Cartel filly then ran second in her All American trial and was a ½ length winner in her Golden State Million trial. Trained by Jaime Gomez, Unlymited is a full brother to multiple Grade 1 winner Chazaq and a half-brother to Grade 1 winner Zoomin With Ease. Unlymited was third to Sunnyside in the Grade 1 Heritage Place Futurity at Remington Park in early June and in his Los Alamitos debut, he finished second to My Mystery Lover.

The ninth trial will be headed by Gary Nutt and Turner Farms' Jess Macho Corona, who has been tremendous in his two appearances in Grade 1 futurities at Los Alamitos. The gelding by Corona Cartel was third in the Ed Burke Million and a game second behind Flash And Roll in the Golden State Million final. He'll start from the outside post nine in this trial. His rivals will include Golden State finalist Symbol Of Faith and Ed Burke finalist Dexxter.

Marin Jones and Steve McIntyre's Cole Man 47, who in addition to the PCQHRA Breeders Futurity also won the John Deere California Juvenile, heads the 10th trial on Sunday. The Stel Corona gelding has finished in top two in eight of nine starts this year and is well rested after skipping the November 17 John Deere Juvenile Championship in order to concentrate on this trial night. Paul Jones saddles the Utah-bred gray.

Others in his heat include Matthew Dunn's Seaduction, winner of her Golden State trial by a length, and Favorite Wise Lady, the runner-up to stablemate Political Favorite in the Governor's Cup Futurity on July 28.

The 12th trial features six horses with stakes experiences led by Ruidoso Futurity finalist PJ Splash Of Joy and PCQHRA Breeders Futurity finalists Callender and Conquering Marie. The racing action concludes with Kindergarten winner Wicked Affair taking on Kindergarten finalist SC Coronada and Governor's Cup finalist Parsons Rocket.

In addition to the 10 berths up for grabs to the Los Alamitos Two Million final, horses with 11th through 20th fastest times will qualify to the Los Alamitos Juvenile Invitational to also be held on December 16.
