BOSSIER CITY, LA—JANUARY 15, 2019—Headed by the $25,000 Billy Montgomery Stakes (see related story), Saturday’s Louisiana Downs race card will also feature trials for the $15,000-added-Louisiana Downs Maiden Stake.

Written for 3, 4 and 5-year-old accredited Louisiana-breds, horsemen responded solidly this year, filling six trials, two more than last year. The top ten qualifiers in the 350-yard heats, will return for the Saturday, February 9 final.

Notable runners include Ebelyn Rojas’ U R Jess Blue in the second trial. The 3-year-old son of Jess Louisiana Blue competed in trials for the Mardi Gras Futurity at Louisiana Downs; the Lee Berwick at Delta Downs as well as the LQHBA Louisiana Million at Evangeline Downs. Top Louisiana rider John Hamilton will break from post position two aboard the 5-2 choice.

Fast N Fun Jordan, owned and trainer by Juan Diaz, Jr. The son of leading third-crop sire Fast Prize Jordan ran fourth in the LQHBA Louisiana Million Invitational and drew the rail in the fourth trial. Victor Urieta, Jr. has the call aboard the gelding, who will make his eighth career start.

Tdz Going Nuts, a son of another leading third-crop sire FDD Going Grand, will run in the final trial for trainer Rosendo Valdez, Jr. He competed in the $360,000 Laddie Futurity last May at Delta Downs as well as trials for the LQHBA Louisiana Million. Luciano Duenez guided Tdz Going Nuts to his maiden-breaking score at Evangeline Downs on December 18, and retains the mount.

Road to Kentucky Handicapping Contest Begins on January 19
Harrah’s Louisiana Downs will host an exciting on-track handicapping contest called the Road to Kentucky Handicapping Contest. It will begin on Saturday, January 19 with major stakes races and Kentucky Derby prep races featured each Saturday through May 4. Fans can register at the contest table adjacent to the program stand with weekly prizes awarded and points accumulated toward the $1,000 grand prize. For more information, CLICK HERE.

Louisiana Downs Dates and Post Times
The 2019 Quarter Horse racing season at Harrah’s Louisiana Downs got underway on Saturday, January 5. The 46-day meet includes 12 stakes highlighted by the first official championship for 2-year-olds, the $100,000-added Mardi Gras Futurity on March 16. Live racing will take place Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday with a 1:00 p.m. (Central) post time and will continue through March 20.
