SUNLAND PARK, NM—APRIL 2, 2019—Woodys Copy Cat, a graded stakes winning daughter of Woodbridge owned by Enrique Barrera, is one of 12 New Mexico-bred sophomore fillies entered in Saturday’s 350-yard, $85,000 Sunburst Stakes (RG3) at Sunland Park.

A $4,700 yearling purchase at the 2017 New Mexico-Bred Sale at Ruidoso Downs, Woodys Copy Cat will be shortening in distance off of her third-place finish, a half of a length behind winner Ryansmanonthemoon, in the 400-yard, $211,000 Shue Fly Stakes (RG2) for state-bred 3-year-olds on January 26. All told, the filly has earned $269,294 from nine outs while racing exclusively in New Mexico.

Woodys Copy Cat drew post 10 and will be ridden by Manuel Gutierrez for trainer Cynthia Gonzalez. Her opponents include Zee James, a homebred Jesse James Jr filly trained by Wes Giles for owners Robert Driggers and Ben Lee Ivey. Zee James has won five of nine races and has banked $253,679, and her two wins in as many starts at Sunland Park include a neck victory in last year’s 300-yard, $396,000 New Mexican Spring Futurity (RG2).

Zee James drew post 7 and will be ridden by Adrian Ramos.
