Country Boy 123 and Had to be Ivory Renew Rivalry in Picov Maturity

AJAX, ONT—MAY 24, 2019—The first stakes race of Ajax Downs' 50th anniversary season is sure to be a thriller as three-time Horse of the Year Country Boy 123 and arch rival Had To Be Ivory square off in Sunday's $55,800 Picov Maturity.

This Sunday is also day two of the track's "10 Days of Winners Contest" in which fans in attendance can win one of four $50 betting vouchers. Also, if a jockey wins two races on the day, each fan will receive a coupon for a free hamburger from McCoy Burger Co.

Had To Be Ivory held on to upset Country Boy 123 on May 12 by a neck in an allowance race when the pair returned from their winter vacations. Country Boy 123, who has won the last two editions of the Picov Maturity, had not lost a race at Ajax since the summer of 2017.

But Had to be Ivory, a 4-year-old star and two years younger than the Boy has only lost once in his fabulous 10-race career and that was in the pair's only previous meeting last August.

Other top runners in the nine-horse Maturity field include Alberta champion Bringonthewave and multiple stakes placed Albertt. The Maturity is race 6 and first race post time is 12:55 pm (EDT).
