WRS Valentino to Make Season Debut in Indiana Grand QHRAI Derby Trials

SHELBYVILLE, IN—JUNE 21, 2019—Twenty-nine 3-year-olds, headed by multiple stakes winner WRS Valentino, have been entered in Saturday’s 400-yard Indiana Grand QHRAI Derby trials at Indiana Grand.

WRS Valentino is a homebred son of Mighty B Valiant trained by Randy Smith for owner Williams Racing Stables Inc. The bay gelding has earned $152,695 from five starts -- all at Indiana Grand -- and his three wins include last year’s 350-yard, $169,000 Indiana Stallion Futurity (R) and 350-yard, $141,000 Governor’s Stakes.

WRS Valentino drew post 3 and will be ridden by Berkley Packer in the third of three trials.

Another 2018 stakes winner, Packin Secrets, will make his first start of the season from post 8 in the second heat. A gelded son of Habits Secret owned and trained by Ricardo Martinez, Packin Secrets won last year’s 300-yard, $82,000 Heartland Futurity at Indiana Grand.

Jorge J. Garcia will ride Packin Secrets.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the July 6, $50,000-est. Indiana Grand QHRAI Derby final.
