Danley Sends Out Hollywoodcrown In First Running of Rita Danley Distaff

RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—JUNE 24, 2019—The Fred Danley-owned-bred and-trained Hollywoodcrown represents the Danley family in the first running of the $45,000 Rita Danley Distaff at Ruidoso Downs on Sunday afternoon.

The 400-yard Rita Danley Distaff is for three-year-old and older New Mexico-bred fillies and mares.

The race's namesake Rita Danley, who died in 2014, was a mainstay in New Mexico racing and married to Fred Danley for 49 years. She owned numerous thoroughbred and quarter horse stakes winners, including 2006 champion aged quarter horse gelding Gotta Get. She was a board member of the New Mexico Horse Breeders' Association and the New Mexico Horsemen's Association.

"It's fantastic and she will be well represented," Fred Danley said of the Rita Danley Stakes. "She worked hard and she deserves it."

Hollywoodcrown could be ready for a prime performance. She was beaten by only a nose in a 300-yard Ruidoso Downs' allowance race on May 18.

A four-year-old daughter of Heza Motor Scooter, Hollywoodcrown has stakes class. She was second by a head in the New Mexico Classic Derby and second by a neck in the $134,000 New Mexico Breeders Derby last year.

A lifetime earner of $172,943, Hollywoodcrown starts from the third post position with J.R. Ramirez riding.

David Bloomer's homebred Mamacita Cartel was fourth in her only 2019 start after an impressive 2018 campaign. She started nine times last year and raced to five wins, three seconds and $234,780 of her lifetime earnings of $267,297.

A year ago, Mamacita Cartel won the $145,000 New Mexico Filly and Mare Championship and the $39,000 Jim Drake Stakes. The Big Daddy Cartel daughter was second to males in the $170,000 New Mexico Classic Championship and the $70,000 First Moonflash Maturity.

Trainer Cynthia Gonzalez will have Albert Medrano ride Mamacita Cartel from the second post position.

Erick A. Gutierrez-Carrillo's Wahene Version has a pair of wins and a second-place finish in her latest three starts. The three-year-old filly won the $85,000 Sunburst Stakes at Sunland Park two starts ago and returned to finish second by a neck in the $60,000 New Mexico Breeders' Stakes at SunRay Park.

Trainer Beatriz Sanchez-Carrillo will have Edgar S. Martinez ride Wahene Version with the sixth post position.

Adrienne Tedford's homebred Addy Ann Angel Eyes won back-to-back races at Sunland Park before coming to Ruidoso Downs. Then the Keven Woods-trained Addy Ann Angel Eyes was a troubled third in a Ruidoso Downs' allowance race.

Raul Herrera gets the mount on Addy Ann Angel Eyes with the inside post position.
