AURORA, CO—JUNE 26, 2019—Twenty-four Colorado-bred 3-year-olds have been entered in Friday’s 350-yard Lucille Rowe Derby (R) trials at Arapahoe Park.
Hugo Barron-Sierra’s Jess Un Sies Mas, a homebred son of world champion Apollitical Jess trained by Jose Manuel Barron, is coming off of a clear two-length victory in the 350-yard, $75,000 Rocky Mountain Derby at Arapahoe Park on June 15. The sorrel gelding drew post 6 and will be ridden by Alfredo Triana Jr. in the second of four trials.
The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the July 13, $60,000-est. Lucille Rowe Derby final.
Also on Friday, Pitchforks Panther is one of 31 Colorado-bred juveniles entered in four 330-yard Cherry Creek Futurity (R) trials.
A sorrel son of Dominyun trained by Roberto Treto for owner Victor Ortiz, Pitchforks Panther will be stretching out in distance off of his second-place run, 1 1/2 lengths behind winner Valentina Relentless, in the 300-yard, $51,448 Golden Spike Futurity at Weber Downs in Ogden, Utah. The gelding has earned $10,789 from two outs.
Pitchforks Panther drew post 7 and will be ridden by Carlos Guillen Chacon in the third heat.
The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the $75,000-est. Cherry Creek Futurity final on July 13.
