Terrific First Down Heads Vandy’s Flash On Sunday

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—JUNE 23, 2019—The $25,000 Vandy’s Flash Handicap is the marquee event on Sunday evening and will bring together seven 3-year-olds squaring off at 400 yards. First post is 6 p.m.

Parsons Family Limited Partnership's Terrific First Down will headline the field, as she makes her first start since posting a daylight victory in the La Primera Del Año Derby on March 30. The FDD Dynasty filly was rightfully sent off as the even money favorite in the La Primera after scoring a length victory in the trials. She lived up to the favorite billing with her impressive derby final win.

Terrific First Down is out of the outstanding broodmare Terrific Energy, the dam of 2019 Charger Bar Handicap winner Thermonuclear Energy and 2019 Ed Burke Million Futurity third place finisher Geothermal and Ed Burke Million finalist Tea Pod. To be ridden by Eduardo Nicasio for trainer Chris O'Dell, Terrific First Down will start from post number three. Terrific First Down is the only filly in the field.

The Vandy's Flash will also feature Sally and Dave Kidd's KR Hi Five, who is a three-time stakes winner at Los Alamitos. The son of Five Bar Cartel won the Adequan Derby Challenge on May 26 after a 2018 season in which he won the John Deere Juvenile Challenge Championship and the Wild West Futurity.

Ed Allred's Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity finalist Transcend, who finished third in his sophomore debut on June 2, and Cristina Salas’ Unrestrained, who is a winner of his last five starts, are among the other top contenders.

The field will also feature Delayed Steal, Cavuto, and Bail Czech.
