OPELOUSAS, LA—NOVEMBER 12, 2019—Twenty-three 3-year-olds, headed by the streaking Eysa Jess Jumpn, are entered in Saturday’s 400-yard LQHBA Breeders’ Derby (R) trials at Evangeline Downs.
Trained by Fructuoso Huitron for owner Jose Estrada Quarter Horses, Eysa Jess Jumpn brings an eight-race win streak into the first of three trials. The Heza Fast Dash filly has won five stakes during the streak, including the 350-yard, $167,500 Sam Houston Derby (G3) at Sam Houston Race Park.
Eysa Jess Jumpn drew post 3 and will be ridden by Pedro C. Espinosa.
Larry J. Boudreaux’s Mpshinning, a son of Mr Piloto trained by Adrian Huitron, is coming off of a second-place finish, one length behind winner Eysa Jess Jumpn, in the 440-yard, $204,600 Dash For Cash Derby (G3) at Lone Star Park on October 5. The colt has earned $627,536 from a dozen outs.
Mpshinning drew post 7 and will be ridden by Victor Urieta Jr. in the third heat.
The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the December 7, $280,661 LQHBA Breeders’ Derby final with the winner taking home $124,894.
