First All-Quarter Horse Program Set for Saturday at Indiana Grand

SHELBYVILLE, IN—JUNE 30, 2020—Indiana Grand will hold the first all-Quarter Horse program of its 2020 season on Saturday, July 4.

Post time for the first of 13 races is set for 10 a.m. (CDT). Eleven sophomores, including one also-eligible entry, have been entered back in Saturday’s Indiana Grand QHRAI Derby. Williams Racing Stables Inc.’s WRS Apolliticalivory, a multiple stakes placed son of Apollitical Blood trained by Randy Smith, drew post 6 and will be ridden by Shanley Jackson. Raced exclusively at Indiana Grand, WRS Apolliticalivory has earned $56,566 from six starts, and his 2-year-old resume includes a third-place finish in the 300-yard, $92,000 Heartland Futurity, and a second-place finish, a nose behind winner Justafamilytradition, in the 350-yard, $135,000 Governor’s Stakes.

Forty-four Indiana-sired 2-year-olds are entered in five 300-yard Gordon Mobley Futurity (R) trials. Patti Marshall’s Stone Lake, an Escondido Beach gelding trained by Anthony Cunningham, drew post 7 and will be ridden by Luz Martinez in the fourth heat. Stone Lake made his debut with a half-length victory in a 250-yard maiden-special weight dash for state-bred juveniles on June 18.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the $150,000 Gordon Mobley Futurity on July 21.

Also on Saturday, 40 Indiana-bred juveniles are entered in four 300-yard Jaguar Rocket Futurity (R) trials. Heza Fast Kisser, a son of Kiss My Hocks trained by Claudio Barraza for owner Abraham Favela, broke his maiden with a clear 1 3/4-length victory in a 250-yard maiden-special-weight race for Indiana-bred 2-year-olds. A 19,500 purchase at the QHRAI Speed Sale, the sorrel colt drew post 8 and will be ridden by Edgar Diaz in the third heat.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the July 20, $100,000 Jaguar Rocket Futurity final.

Three 300-yard Heartland Futurity trials are set for Saturday. Thirty 2-year-olds are entered, including a pair of maiden-claiming ($10,000) winners at the Remington Park spring meet, C.W. Mullenix’s Bp Fancy Lady, and Julio Contreras’ Fancy Creole Queen, both of whom will race in the third heat.
