SHELBYVILLE, IN—JULY 1, 2020—Indiana has always had a competitive group of older horses in the Quarter Horse ranks and 2020 is no different. Ten will line up in the starting gate for the 22nd running of the $59,600 Bradford Stakes Monday, July 6.

The race is set for the ninth on the program with an estimated post time of 6 p.m. (EST).

Defending Bradford Stakes champion Country Boy 123 has been selected as the early morning line favorite at odds of 2-1. The seven-year-old gelded son of Country Chicks Man will be making his second start of 2020 after a second-place finish in allowance competition in June at Indiana Grand.

Owned by Ruth Barbour of Michigan, Country Boy 123 has 22 career wins and in excess of $350,000 in earnings. The multiple stakes winning gelding is trained by Tony Cunningham and will be ridden by L. D. Martinez from post nine.

Joining Country Boy 123 as an early favorite is WRs Valentino from the Randy Smith barn. The four-year-old son of Might B Valiant was a winner in his only start of 2020 and seeks to add to his hefty bankroll of $222,000 collected solely at Indiana Grand. WRs Valentino is owned by breeders Williams Racing Stables of Kentucky and will start from the outside post 10 at odds of 3-1. Sammy Mendez will ride.

Accountably from the Ricardo Martinez barn also returns to Indiana seeking the title in the Bradford Stakes. Owned by Martinez, the six-year-old American Runaway gelding missed the win by a nose in his last outing at Remington Park. Accountably starts from post three with jockey Edgar Diaz aboard at odds of 5-2.

The full field for the Bradford Stakes, in post position order with jockey and odds, includes:

  1. Beaus Coupe (Fernando Morin, 30-1)
  2. WH Kenny G (Oscar Macias, 30-1)
  3. Accountably (Edgar Diaz, 5-2)
