Forty Juveniles To Compete In Trials To The Govenor’s Cup Futurity

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—JULY 3, 2020—BF Outfoosed, who competed in the Grade 1 Ed Burke Million Futurity in his last start, and Robert Adair Kindergarten Futurity finalists La Reina Del Sur and Hi High Hopes are among the 40 juveniles that will race in the trials to the Governor’s Cup Futurity on Saturday at Los Alamitos.

Five futurity trials will be contested on Saturday with each heat featuring an eight-horse field. The Governor’s Cup trials will start in the fourth race of the eight-race card. First post is 7:05 p.m. The horses with the 10 fastest times will advance to the 350-yard final to be held here as part of California Breeders Champions Night on Saturday, July 25.

Owned by Les and Kim Sweeting, the Foose gelding was a game second when squaring off with Strange Fellow in their Ed Burke trial on June 7. BF Outfoosed was sent off as the longest shot on the board in the Ed Burke final, but came away sharply from post number four before losing his racing path early on. He faded back from there and could not get back into contention from that point on.

The Birrell Farms-bred gelding will look for a return to top form when he heads the second division of the Governor’s Cup in race number five against Lucky Seven Ranch’s unbeaten filly Sassies Blues Girl and the impressive debut winner Cartels Legacy.

Abel Reyes’ La Reina Del Sur 1 and Paul Jones and Ripley Vaughn’s Hi High Hopes met in the Kindergarten final, finishing fourth and sixth respectively, and will now face off in the fifth and final Governor’s Cup trial. Trained by Sally Rivera, La Reina Del Sur 1 was all class in her Kindergarten trial, winning the 300-yard race by a half-length and in the third fastest qualifying time of the night. Hi High Hopes, who is still a maiden, had the sixth fastest qualifying time while running second in his trial.

Ed Allred’s top juveniles in action include Single Brad, who at one point had the meet’s fastest time by a 2-year-old, and Monopolist, a powerful looking gelding by Favorite Cartel with a 3/4 length victory in his racing debut. Single Brad will race in the third trial, while Monopolist will be in action in the fourth trial.

Five Livestock Company LLC and Steve Wright’s Alltime Favorite is another unbeaten horse in the trials after winning his first to career starts, including a head victory in the trials to the Ed Burke Million. The Favorite Cartel gelding will be face Single Brad in the third trial division. This trial might be toughest of the night, as it will also feature the winners Constituent, Jess A Little Riddle and Fool This Kid.
