Bitterroot Futurity, Derby Trials Set for Friday

POCATELLO, ID—JULY 15, 2020—Stakes winners Fortunes Wild Blood and Babes Fabulous Eagle are among the 40 2-year-olds entered in Friday’s 350-yard Bitterroot Futurity (R) trials at Pocatello Downs.

A gelded son of Apollitical Blood trained by Jay Pitcher for owners Kelly and Kyle Cook, Fortunes Wild Blood will be stretching out in distance off of his half-length victory in the 300-yard, $26,000 Crush The Curve Futurity at Pocatello Downs on June 24. Fortunes Wild Blood has won two of four starts and has earned $12,630.

Fortunes Wild Blood was a $13,500 purchase at last year’s Heritage Place Yearling Sale in Oklahoma City. The gelding drew post 4 and will be ridden by Nakia Ramirez in the first of five trials.

Babes Fabulous Eagle races for Merlin Sharp from the barn of trainer Monty Arrossa. A son of One Fabulous Eagle, the gelding is coming off of a neck victory in the 330-yard, $26,000 South Valley Futurity at Laurel Brown Racetrack near Salt Lake City. The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the $70,000-est. Bitterroot Futurity final on July 31.

Also on Friday, 14 sophomores are entered in two 400-yard Bitterroot Derby (R) trials. Gary and Jeralyn Messenger’s Zoom On Jess, a homebred son of Jess Zoomin, is coming off of a second-place finish in the 400-yard, $41,000 Adequan California Derby Challenge Stakes at Los Alamitos on May 24. The brown gelding drew post 6 and will be ridden by Eric Ayala for trainer Monty Arrossa in the second heat.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the July 31, $15,000-est. Bitterroot Derby final.
