Three Trials Set Sunday For Gillespie County Fair Derby

FREDRICKSBURG, TX—AUGUST 7, 2020—Gillespie Fairground will host three trials on Sunday for the $20,000-added Gillespie County Fair Derby. A bevy of stakes runners have entered the 350 yards trials to be contested as Races 2 thru 4.

First post Sunday at Gillespie Fairground is 1:00 p.m. (CDT) and the first trial Race 2 will run with an approximate post of 1:25 p.m.

A pair of $98,000 Old South Derby finalist will face-off in the opening trial.

Sergio Holguin, Cliften Nielsen and Felix Rodriguez' Freighttrain Reba will start from the inside rail for trainer Alonso Neri. The daughter of Grade 1 sire Freighttrain B was fourth in in the Old South Derby in her last start July 3 at Delta Downs. She has compiled a (8) 2-0-0 record and earned $19,220. Victor Urieta, Jr. has been named to ride.

Multiple stakes finalist Lovethewayyourrun will be ridden by jockey Nestor Duran from the 6 post, in the opening trial (race 2), for trainer Adrian Huitron and owner Florentino Leon. The altered son of world champion One Dashing Eagle has won or placed in five of nine starts and earned $31,265. He was finalist in the Old South Derby in his last start and the $308,000 Firecracker Futurity (G2) at 2.

Ima Tempting Girl enters the second trial (race 3) off an impressive 1-˝ length allowance win at Retama Park in her last start July 30th. Also trained by Alonso Neri, the daughter of champion and champion sire Tempting Dash races for owner Juan Sandoval. On the board in seven of eight career starts the sorrel filly has earned $25,580. Another Old South Derby finalist Sensation Senator, races form post 2 in the second trial for owner Claudia Miranda and trainer Daniel Luna. Luis Vivanco rides the Louisiana Senator filly who has won four of 12 starts and earned $39,721. She will be looking for her first win from four starts in 2020. Sensation Senator was second in the Sam Houston Juvenile at 2.

Grade 3-placed Three Blue Coronas will start the outside (post 8) in the second trial for owner Jordyn Prock and trainer Alonso Neri. The son of champion Jess Louisiana Blue has won four of eight starts with a third-place effort in the Speedhorse Futurity(G3) and qualifying for the $296,000 Evangeline Futurity last year. He has earned $42,634.

The final trial (race 4) will be headed by Grade 3-placed Baby Licious, a daughter of world champion sire FDD Dynasty. Luis Sanchez, III conditions the $56,160 earner for owner Javier Muzquiz. Baby Licious was second in the Grade 3 Harrah's Futurity and third in the Sam Houston Juvenile last season. She will start in post 4.

Rancho La Cobra's Hes El Martillo, a multiple stakes finalist by leading second-crop sire Hes Relentless, races from post 5. Frylan Ramirez had the riding call aboard the $14,527 earner for trainer Robi Meche. Hes El Martillo was a finalist to the Grade 2 $308,000 Firecracker Futurity and the $71,000 John Deere Retama Park Juvenile last year.
