OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—MARCH 4, 2021—A total of 121 juveniles, all of whom will be making their first official starts, are entered in Monday’s 300-yard Oklahoma Futurity (G2) trials at Remington Park.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the March 20, $350,000-est. final.

Troy McClennen’s Sustainability, a son of Dominyun and a $25,000 purchase at last year’s Heritage Place Winter Mixed Sale, drew the rail post and will be ridden by Daniel Torres for trainer Carlos Ruiz in the seventh of 14 trials. The gray gelding prepped for his career debut with a 250-yard gate workout in :13.40, the fastest of 177 at the distance on February 24.

Sustainability is out of Dianetogetcha, a Mr Eye Opener mare who won the 2005 All American Congress Futurity (G3) at Beulah Park near Columbus, Ohio.

Ms Cartel V, a daughter of world champion Apollitical Jess owned by James Sills, recorded the fastest of 140 250-yard works on February 23, as the filly covered the distance from the gate in :13.60. Ms Cartel V is out of Velvette, a winning daughter of First Down Dash.

Ms Cartel V drew post 8 and will be ridden by Jimmy Dean Brooks for trainer Eddie D. Willis in the third heat.

Other prominent 2-year-olds entered in Monday’s trials include Seth Howard’s Teddie Vedder and Modesto Reyes’ Foose Lodge. A homebred Ivory James gelding trained by Sam Howard, Teddie Vedder rallied to score a neck victory in a 250-yard training race on February 23, covering the distance in :13.75 while racing against a reported 17-mph head wind.

Teddie Vedder is out of Double Two Stepper, a winning daughter of the Dash For Cash stallion Mr Eye Opener. The gelding drew post 5 and will be ridden by Uriel Cervantes in the ninth trial.

A $19,000 purchase at last year’s Heritage Place Yearling Sale, Foose Lodge is the 8-5 morning-line favorite in the fifth heat. Foose Lodge prepped for his official debut with a half-length win in a 250-yard schooling race on February 24, as the California-bred Foose colt stopped the timer in :13.67 while aided by a reported 19-mph tail wind.

Foose Lodge’s dam, the A Classic Dash mare Classic Sassy Chic, won three graded stakes from 2002-05, including the ’02 American Airlines Juvenile Challenge Championship (G1) at Lone Star Park. The colt drew post 8 and will be ridden by Ramiro Garcia for trainer Julio Corral.
