Cool Million On The Line In Golden State Final On Sunday Night

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—OCTOBER 29, 2021—Los Alamitos Race Course’s second million dollar futurity of the meet, the Grade 1, $1,112,300 Golden State Million Futurity, will have plenty of star power on display led by a quartet of Grade 1 futurity finalists among the eight Quarter Horses that will be in action here on Sunday night.

Dunn Ranch LLC’s In Hott Pursuit, who was second in the Grade 1 Ed Burke Million Futurity here on June 20, will be joined by fellow Ed Burke finalists Hallelujah Nights and Chizum, plus Rainbow Futurity finalist Significant Dynasty in this lineup. The field will also include a pair of 2-year-old comets in Just A Kool Boy and Fortunate Corona, each a daylight winner in their respective Golden State trial.

The field will also include Robyn Gordon, Juan Moya and S-Quarter K LLC’s Dasha Dynasty, a half-brother to 2014 Golden State Million winner Heza Dasha Fire, and Whizkey Glasses, the winner of the Easy Jet Stakes at Ruidoso Downs and an impressive winner in trials to the Golden State and All American Futurity.

The final will be missing fastest qualifier Golden Boi and stablemate Minecraft, as they were both scratched from this race on Friday morning. Golden Boi spiked a temperature and has been dealing with abdominal issues for the past week, but he is doing better each day according to the latest reports. Minecraft figures to return to action next year.

In the absence of Ed Burke Million winner Golden Boi, Just A Kool Boy takes center stage after posting the next fastest qualifying time in the trials. Owned by Adina Baker and bred by Garrett Baker, this colt by Favorite Cartel is a perfect two for two at Los Alamitos, winning his first local start by 1 1/2 lengths before returning in the trials with a 1-¼ length romp.

AQHA champion trainer Eddie Willis will saddle the Oklahoma-bred, who will be ridden by Jimmy Dean Brooks. Willis will be looking to make it two in a row after training last year’s winner, Apollitical Gold.

Dunn Ranch LLC’s trio of In Hott Pursuit, Hallelujah Nights and Whizkey Glasses each won their All American trial at 440 yards, as did Ricardo Ramirez’s Chizum. They’ll be flying late to the get to the finish line first.

As for S&S Horses’ Fortunate Corona, this fast-improving runner will be saddled by Rodolfo Viramontes and ridden by his son, Armando Viramontes.
