LOS ALAMITOS, CA—DECEMBER 11, 2021—The closing weekend of the 2021 meet is here with three outstanding stakes event, a pair of events for 3-year-olds and one for 3-year-olds of upwards.

The two stakes for sophomores are the A Ransom Handicap on Saturday night at the Grade 2 Southern California Derby on Sunday evening. The First Down Dash Handicap on Saturday, meanwhile, will feature a tremendous group of older Quarter Horses.

Top names in the $25,000 First Down Dash at 400 yards include Grade 1 winner Chocolatito and Restricted Grade 1 winner Bail Czech. Every horse in this strong six-horse field has either won a stakes race or finish second or better in a Grade 1 stakes.

Chocolatito won the Grade 1 Vessels Maturity and the Grade 1 Robert Boniface Los Alamitos Invitational Championship last year and has been a hard-knocking performer all season long. He was third to Circle City in this year’s Spencer Childers California Breeders Championship Handicap and has been among the top five finishers in two other Grade 1 events.

Bail Czech, who won last year’s Spencer Childers, will be joined in this field by two-time stakes winner Mental Error, Cypress Handicap winner Stolen Lives, and Adequan Derby winner Mister Tornado.

Cattail Cove, second in the 2019 Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity and third in this year’s Grade 1 Go Man Go, will complete the field.

The $25,000 A Ransom at 350 yards has attracted eight top 3-year-olds led by multiple stakes winner Other World, who ran a great race when finishing second to Powerful Favorite in this year’s Robert Boniface.

The field will also include two-time derby winner Favorite Colossus and Town Policy Handicap winner Just A Dasha Hero.

A pair of Grade 1 derby finalist are also in action in Fallout, third in the Los Alamitos Super Derby, and Doc Lamb, who ran in the Winter Derby.
