Big Moves in AQHA Racing-Horseplayernow.com National Polls

Q-RACING JOURNAL—APRIL 29, 2015—There was big movement this week in the AQHA Racing-Horseplayernow.com national polls.

After further consideration of the older horse performances, pollsters saw fit to move Daytona B above Matabari for the first time all year, with a narrow 90-85 lead.

Gregorio Garza’s Daytona B has won three of five starts this year, including the $100,000 Sam Abbey Memorial Invitational Championship at Hialeah Park and, most recently, the $105,840 Bank of America Sam Houston Championship Challenge (G2).

Matabari won the $169,800 Los Alamitos Winter Championship (G1) over the likes of champion and No. 3-placed pollster Moonist.

Sam Houston Derby (G3) winner Moonin The Eagle – a half brother to Moonist, both out of champion Your First Moon – entered the poll at No. 5 after knocking on the door last week. This is the horse’s second stakes win of the year, as he also took the $200,125 South Florida Derby at Hialeah.

In the Juvenile rankings, undefeated Sam Houston Futurity (G2) winner Ivan James rocketed all the way to No. 2. The Jorge Meraz homebred on Saturday romped to a 1 ˝-length victory in the $621,100 race.

Tee Chic, winner of the Oklahoma Futurity (G2), held on to the top placing.
