Cody Joiner Announces Retirement From Training

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—JULY 26, 2015—Trainer Cody Joiner announced today that effective August 1 he will no longer offer trainings services.

"I want to thank everyone in the industry that have touched the lives of myself and my family," Joiner said on Monday.

Since 2000, Joiner has saddled 932 starters, 144 winners, 14 stakes winners and earners in excess of $2.5 million. Among his many charges were stakes winner Fredaville, All Out Arrogant, Forgive Him, Terrific Synergy, All Guns Firing, etc. He saddled multiple graded stakes winner Native Tea Rose to a fourth place finish in the 2012 $2.4 million All American Futurity(G1) at Ruidoso Downs.

Joiner also worked as an assistant trainer, in charge of their Los Alamitos Barn, for his father Michael Joiner when FDD Dynasty was named the AQHA Racing Champion 2-Year-Old and 3-Year-Old Colt. FDD Dynasty won the Ed Burke Million Futurity(G1), Go Man Go Handicap(G1), Governor's Cup Derby(G2), was second in the Los Alamitos Two Million(G1) and third in the Golden State Million(G1) and Champion of Champions(G1).

"An exciting new opportunity has led to this decision and I have decided to utilize the college degree I worked so very hard for. From the beginning my love and passion for quarter horse racing, coupled with my access to top horsemanship, led to a wonderful run in a rather short training career. This transition is not a move away from the industry I hold so dear to my heart. Instead I will focus on owning and breeding a few horses," he added.

Joiner enjoyed a solid California Breeders Champions Night this past Saturday, as he saddled Budder Think Twice to a runner-up finish in the evening’s richest race, the $395,500 Governor’s Cup Futurity in addition to sending All Out Arrogant to a third place finish in the $100,000 Spencer Childers California Breeders Champions Handicap.

“I want to thank my family and friends for all of their love and continued support in all our endeavors,” Joiner concluded.
