SUNLAND PARK, NM—FEBRUARY 4, 2016—The New Mexico Livestock Board on Wednesday that the EHV-1 outbreak at Sunland Park Racetrack appears to have spread to nearby Frontera Training Center.
Two horses at Frontera were confirmed positive on Tuesday, while seven additional positives were confirmed in the Sunland Park stable area. This brings the total number of EHV-1 positives to 44 horses over 19 barns at both facilities.
According to the Livestock Board, the two Frontera positives are in the same barn. Frontera has always been included in the original quarantine perimeter. No movement of horses is being allowed in or out of the quarantine perimeter.
The Equine Disease Communication Center has reported that these totals are from 129 samples tested. Five horses from those samples have been euthanized due to neurological symptoms.
