RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—MAY 5, 2016—The undefeated champion and 2015 All American Futurity winner Jess Good Candy arrived at trainer Clint Crawford’s barn at Ruidoso Downs on Wednesday evening.

“He was no trouble at all (to haul),” said Crawford. “He has never been a problem to haul. He’s not studdy and when you stop he drinks up water. This morning (Thursday) he was playing and pulling everyone around.”

Jess Good Candy is scheduled to start in the trials to the Grade 1, $1 million (est.) Ruidoso Derby on May 29. The Ruidoso Downs’ season starts on May 27 with the first of two days of trials to the Grade 1, $1 million Ruidoso Futurity.

Owned by PV Quarter Horse Farms LLC, Jess Good Candy was named the 2015 champion two-year-old and champion two-year-old colt after racing to four wins from four 2015 starts and earning $1,561,078. The Good Reason SA-sired colt was $1.5 million of his total earnings with his neck win in the All American Futurity.

The All American Futurity on Labor Day offers the largest purse in quarter horse racing and the largest purse of any two-year-old race.

Jess Good Candy prepared to his Ruidoso Downs’ campaign with a three-quarter-length win in the Mr Master Bug Stakes at Remington Park over 350 yards, a distance shorter than he prefers.

“It was an excellent prep race for him and he’s ready for the Ruidoso Derby trials,” said Crawford.

The Ruidoso Derby is run at 400 yards while the Grade 1, $1.2 million (est.) Rainbow Derby and the Grade 1, $2.5 million (est.) All American Derby are contested at 440 yards. He scored his All American Futurity victory at 440 yards.

The ultimate goal for Jess Good Candy is the All American Derby on Labor Day weekend. He may run in the Rainbow Derby trials.
