Go Man Go Memorial Dedicated At Ruidoso Downs Sunday

RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—MAY 29, 2016—The gravesite memorial to the legendary quarter horse Go Man Go was dedicated at Ruidoso Downs today (Sunday) before the start of the trials to the Grade 1, $1,040,000 Ruidoso Derby.

Go Man Go, foaled in 1953, was the first three-time quarter horse world champion and the first quarter horse to be honored as world champion as a two-year-old. He set world records at 350 yards and 440 yards while establishing three track records. He won 17 stakes races.

A son of the thoroughbred Top Deck, Go Man Go added to his legendary status as a stallion. He sired seven champions, 83 stakes winners and two All American Futurity winners. He has been inducted into the Ruidoso Downs’ Racehorse Hall of Fame and the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame. His stud fee reached as high as $10,000.

Go Man Go lived to be 30-years-old and spent the finals years of his breeding career at Harriett Peckham’s Buena Suerte Ranch east of Roswell, New Mexico. Peckham was called "the queen of quarter horse racing." The late Peckham’s daughters and descendants traveled from Houston to attend the dedication.

Also at the dedication were former Buena Suerte Ranch veterinarian and general manager Dr. Leonard Blach and his family along with Ruidoso Downs’ president and general manager Shaun Hubbard.

"We are honored to have the memorial for this legendary horse at the iconic Ruidoso Downs. He scored many of his most important wins here," said Hubbard. "We want to especially thank the Peckham family and Dr. Blach for helping make this happen. It’s tremendous."
