Rosie Bier Alvarado Passes Away

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—MAY 30, 2016—Rosie Bier Alvarado, wife of long time Quarter Horse owner and breeder Ron Alvarado and an ever present figure in the Vessels Club at Los Alamitos since its opening in 1995, passed away on Sunday, May 22. She was 78-years-old.

The Alvarados campaigned a long line of Quarter Horse runners with the broodmare Dashing Noble producing most of their standouts that raced in the late 1990s and early 2000s. The stakes winner RA Noble headed Dashing Noble’s progeny. For the Alvarados, RA Noble won the Goetta Handicap in September of 1999 while posting four other victories during her racing career. Later owned by Salvador Pimienta, RA Noble would produce the Corona Czech filly Blackberry Czech, which would go on to win the 2012 Kindergarten Futurity for Pimienta.

“Rosie loved the horses,” Ron Alvarado said. “When RA Noble won the Goetta that made Rosie really happy. RA Noble then produced a big horse herself in Blackberry Czech. Rosie also loved the people in racing. She talked about her friends in racing a lot.”

Dashing Noble was also the mother of the Alvarados’ homebred winner Hi Noble, a four-time winner at Los Alamitos, as well as the three-time winning gelding UR Noble. Other Alvarado-bred winners out of Dashing Noble included Noble Song, Yo Estoy Listo, Chamon, Shes A Noble Dash, Check This Noble, and Mi Noble Babe.

Ron started owning horses in the early 1970s after joining a racing partnership headed by his friend, Johnny Emoto.

“I started coming to the races around 1973 or ’74. Johnny talked me into being partners on a horse,” Ron said. “The horse was Buds Lodi. Rosie would start coming to the track in the early 1980s. She enjoyed the races a lot, especially the friends that she made.”

Rosie’s friends at the racetrack included the Schvaneveldt Family and racehorse owners Frank and Asaye Nakamura, Bernie and Barbara Pica, and Joyce Sherryll to just mention a few.

“We have lost a very good friend,” said Bernie Pica. “It is with great sadness we have to talk about the passing of Rosie Alvarado. I personally miss the conversations and debates we had. Our thoughts and sincere prayers go out to her husband Ron and the rest of the family during this sorrowful time and I personally rejoice in having been fortunate enough to have known Rosie.”

Rosie and Ron first met while attending Gardena High School located 19 miles northwest of Los Alamitos Race Course. The couple married a few years later and had four children together: Ron Jr., Jackie, Susan, and Tony. The Alvarados were married for over 60 years until her passing. In addition, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren survive Rosie.

A service in her memory will be held at Queen of Heaven Mortuary on Friday, June 3 starting at 12 p.m. Queen of Heaven Mortuary is located at 2161 South Fullerton Road in Rowland Heights, California. For more info regarding the service, please call 626-964-1291.
