Portland Meadows Sees Sharp Increase In Wagering Handle

PORTLAND, OR—NOVEMBER 15, 2017—Portland Meadows saw a jump in the wagering handle this past week with its Monday and Tuesday racing program which offered ten races each day.

With over $650,000 wagered on Monday and Tuesday’s handle closing in on the one-million-dollar mark at $916,000 plus, each day was up significantly over the previous week.

The Monday number of over $650,000 compares to the previous Monday of just over $516,000. The Tuesday increase reflected a jump of about $152,000 from $764,201 to more than $916,000.

With many factors playing a part, one of them could be the increase in field size for the week. Racing Secretary Jerry Kohls was correct in his prediction prior to the race day when he said "I think it’s going to be a really good day with the bigger fields" referring to the Tuesday card.

With the California Fairs now ended, there has been a migration of horses from Northern California making their way to Portland for the first time.

Portland Meadows will offer Dollar Day at The Races on Sunday, November 26th with $1 Beer, Soft Drinks, Hot Dogs and Programs. Also, fans that sign up for new Membership Rewards will receive a free $10 play (details at the track).
