Ima Fearless Hero Dies

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—NOVEMBER 15, 2017—S-Quarter K LLC’s Ima Fearless Hero, the AQHA champion 2-year-old gelding in 2015 and the winner of that year’s Grade 1 Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity, was laid to rest on today (Wednesday) following complications with ringbone.

A half-brother of 2015 AQHA World Champion Heza Dasha Fire, Ima Fearless Hero won eight of 17 start and earned $1,062,435 while racing exclusively at Los Alamitos. A son of Valiant Hero and out of the outstanding mare Dasha Freda, Ima Fearless Hero won six of eight starts during his championship juvenile campaign. In addition to winning the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity, he also won the Grade 2 PCQHRA Breeders Futurity and the Ed Burke Memorial Juvenile Stakes.

Ima Fearless Hero qualified to three derbies during his sophomore campaign, as he made the finals to the Grade 3 PCQHRA Breeders Derby, Grade 1 Los Alamitos Super Derby, and Grade 2 Southern California Derby. He finished ninth in the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Winter Championship earlier this year and made his final start in an allowance race that featured three other stakes winners on August 25. He was trained by Jose Flores.

"He was a special horse," said Don Meneely, who along with his wife, Kathy, and their son, Shawn, operate S-Quarter K LLC. "He was quite a horse and always ran with a lot of heart. He was also extremely fast. He was a tremendous race horse."

Cruz Mendez piloted the outstanding champion Ima Fearless Hero in 16 of his 17 career outings.
