LOS ALAMITOS, CA—JULY 17, 2018—Leading Los Alamitos Race Course rider Cesar DeAlba is home after suffering an injury in fifth trial on Saturday for the Governor's Cup Futurity at the Orange County racetrack.

"I want to thank everyone for their kind words and concern,"DeAlba tweeted on Sunday (JUL 15). "I'm back at home happy to be with my family. I’m banged up and sore but I will be better soon."

DeAlba was aboard the 2-year-old filly Bookofmatches, who went down in the race.

According to his agent Neil Bricks, the jockey was transported to UCI Medical Center and was alert, conscious, had complete movement after the spill. His wife, Becky, reported later that he suffered two fractured lumbar vertebrae, two broken ribs, broken lower teeth, eye laceration and swollen back in the accident.

DeAlba has ridden 44 winners at Los Alamitos this season and is currently #2 in the jockey standings with earnings of $782,927. He has ridden such top horses as Champions Moonist, Styllish Jess Bar, Apollitical Blood as well as Grade 1 winners BH Lisas Boy, Little Talks, Hard Hitting, and Strength In Numbers to name a few.

Bookofmatches, a daughter of champion sire Walk Thru Fire from the Separatist mare Separtini, races for owner/breeder Ronald Hartley and is conditioned by trainer John Cooper.
