SUNLAND PARK, NM—NOVEMBER 15, 2018—Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino has named two key officials for the upcoming 60th live racing season with Gerald Richards and Johnnie Jamison.

Gerald Richards will begin his first season as Sunland Park’s Racing Secretary this winter. Richards has been employed for two years as the Downs at Albuquerque Racing Secretary and has received very positive reviews. Two-Time World Champion Quarter Horse Jessies First Down won the Downs at Albuquerque Fall Quarter Horse Championship two years in a row under his supervision of the racing office. Richards has helped increase field size and handle at the Albuquerque track.

For the past three years, Richards has been active as the chief chart caller at Sunland Park Racetrack for the Equibase Company. His data input and commentary appears in the Daily Racing Form. In 2016, Richards completed and received full accreditation for the Racing Officials Program in Louisville, Kentucky and is currently listed as the Level Three Steward.

The former Thoroughbred trainer maintains a home in Santa Teresa, New Mexico.

A proven horse racing professional with over 40 years of experience, Johnnie Jamison will be taking over the dual role at Sunland Park as Track Superintendent and Head Starter. Jamison possesses a dazzling array of achievements and a sparkling resume.

Not only has Jamison started over 20,000 races, he designed and installed the popular track surface at Indiana Grand Racetrack and Casino.

Jamison has started numerous Grade 1 Quarter Horse Futurities and Derbies at Lone Star Park. He has also started the races at Sam Houston Race Park, Indiana Grand and the Downs at Albuquerque.

As part of the dynastic Jamison racing family, Johnnie Jamison’s return to Sunland Park marks a triumphant coming home. He was Sunland’s track superintendent from 1997 through 2000. Jamison has references from such racing heavyweights as Sunland Park Racetrack Casino and Hotel’s General Manager Rick Baugh and legendary trainers Steve Asmussen and Bret Calhoun. He will be an excellent addition to the Sunland Park racing team.

The 75-day racing season starts on Friday, December 28.
