Final Three Races Canceled Friday at Remington Park Due to Severe Weather

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—MAY 24, 2019—Remington Park was able to get nine races in on the 12-race card Friday night before severe weather moved into the area, forcing cancellation of the final three races.

Stewards at Remington Park called the final races off at 9:53 p.m.

Straight winds of 70 mph were reported and power lines down in south Oklahoma City just prior to the thunderstorm moving north to the racetrack. Heavy rains pounded the Remington Park racing surface and with lightning included, it was determined that for the safety of all involved the conclusion of the card could not be run.

There were some areas surrounding the metro that received as much as three inches of rain in a short period of time, according to the National Weather Service.

Racing continues this week with racing on Saturday night at 6 p.m., Sunday at 1:30 p.m. and a special Memorial Day Monday card that will begin at 11 a.m. There will be 12 races on Saturday, 11 on Sunday and 10 on Monday.

Three stakes races are set for the holiday Memorial Day card. They are the seventh, eighth and ninth races that day and, respectively, are the $68,000-added FL Lady Bug Stakes, the $68,000-added Boyd Morris Memorial Stakes, and the $50,000-added Jack Brooks Stakes.

The FL Lady Bug Stakes is for 2-year-old Oklahoma-bred Quarter Horses going 330 yards. The Boyd Morris Memorial Stakes is written for Oklahoma-bred Quarter Horses, 3-year-olds-and-older covering 400 yards. The Jack Brooks Stakes is for 3-year-old Oklahoma-bred Quarter Horses at 350 yards.
