Turf Paradise Cancels Monday Card Due To Weather

PHOENIX, AZ—JANUARY 25, 2020—Due to severe thunderstorms, with winds expected as high as 60 mph, Turf Paradise canceled Monday's eight-race card.

At 1:50 (MST) severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Deer Valley Airport to near Desert Ridge Marketplace to near North Mountain Park to Arizona State Fairgrounds, moving northeast. The sever warning system for Maricopa County said there as a possibility of tornados and hail.

Locations impacted included Phoenix, Glendale, Scottsdale, Fountain Hills, Paradise Valley, Laveen, Cave Creek, Carefree, Piestewa Peak Park, Deer Valley Airport, McDowell Mountain Park, North Mountain Park, Arizona State Fairgrounds, Downtown Phoenix and Downtown Scottsdale.

Tuesday' card at the Arizona racetrack includes the $33,725 Turf Paradise Maiden Stakes at 300 yards (see related story). The Turf Paradise Maiden Stakes is not recognized as an official stakes by the American Quarter Horse Association.
