Jess Too Tempting Breaks Maiden With Top Bank of America Texas Maiden Challenge Clocking

HOUSTON, TX—MAY 1, 2015—Jerry D. Chapman's lightly raced Jess Too Tempting broke his maiden Friday night with a three-quarter length win at Sam Houston Race Park while setting the top qualifying time for the Bank of America Texas Maiden Challenge.

The 10 fastest qualifiers, from the three trials contested for Challenge Enrolled 3-year-olds and up maidens at time of nomination, will return to Sam Houston Race Park on Friday, May 15 and vie for the winner's share of an $18,000-added purse over 350 yards.

Saddled by trainer Vicki Lea McLean, Jess To Tempting put in a strong drive under jockey Luis Ramirez to get the top qualifying time of :18.022 seconds. It was the first win for the 3-year-old son of Tempting Dash who has compiled a (6) 1-0-3 record.

"We knew he could run, but as a 2-year-old he just had some issues," said McIlvain. “We gelded him at the end of last year, and he’s just come back a better horse.”

Jerry Chapman and Wayne Hyde bred the chestnut gelding in Texas from the Mr Jess Perry mare Ms West Jess.

Time For Win scored a three-quarter-length win in the final trial to get the second fastest clocking of :18.064 seconds. The Mr Jess Perry 3-year-old races for owner Pete Scarmardo. Francisco Calderon had the riding assignment aboard the California bred out of Fine Wines, by First Down Dash.

Also lightly races, Vessels Stallion Farm LLC bred the sorrel mare who also got her first win in five career starts. Leon Bard handlings training duties.

Alex Villarreal saddled Zoomin Tac to his first career win in the first trial to set the third fastest qualifying time of :18.080. It was the first official start for the Jess Zoomin 4-year-old out of Sexy Tac, by Tolltac. Bred in Texas by Burnett Ranches LLC, Zoomin Tac races for owner Roberto Resendez. Luis Ramirez had the riding call aboard the bay gelding.
