L Bar D Sweet Fantsy Sets Top Time In Merial Sun Downs Distaff Trials

KENNEWICK, WA—APRIL 24, 2016—Herman Torres' L Bar D Sweet Fantsy rolled to a 3¾-length trial win Sunday afternoon at Sun Downs to set the top qualifying mark for the Merial Sun Downs Distaff Challenge.

The 10 qualifiers, from two trials races, will return to the Pacific Northwest racetrack on Sunday, May 8th to vie for the winners' share of a $15,000-added purse going 400 yards. The winner will also walk away with an automatic berth to the Grade 1 $125,000 Guaranteed Merial Distaff Challenge Championship October 29th at Los Alamitos Race Course.

L Bar D Sweet Fantsy was the first of three finalists saddled by trainer Hector Magallanes. Jake Samuels rode the 4-year-old daughter of Fantastic Corona Jr to the top clocking of :20.435 seconds into a 15 mph crosswind.

Bred in Oregon by F. Darrell and Linda Sanders, L Bar D Sweet Fantasy is from the Strawfly Special mare Dash Home Deb. She has compiled a (16) 5-2-1 record and earned $14,510. All of her 16 starts have been on the Pacific Northwest racing circuit.

Jockey Jose Madrigal rode Flyin Lion to a 2½-length win in the second trial to set the second fastest time of :20.621 seconds into a 15 mph crosswind. Bill Hoburg conditions the multiple stakes winner for owner/breeders Mike and Sherry Reardon.

The homebred daughter of Panther Mountain is out of Flaming Cynthia by Rocket's Magic. The defending Merial Sun Downs Distaff champion has won 10 of 23 career starts and earned $59,286.
