GRAND PRAIRIE, TX—OCTOBER 1, 2016—Sure Fire Flyer was a game winner by a head over Sr Esmeralda in the $32,310 Merial Lone Star Distaff Challenge Saturday night at Lone Star Park. Adashinrose finished half-a-length back for third.
Ridden by jockey Manuel Gutierrez, Sure Fire Flyer covered the 400 yard distance in :20.210 seconds into a 5 mph crosswind to pocket the winner's purse of $14,863. The third win in 10 starts for the 3-year-old daughter of All American Futurity(G1) winner Mr Piloto.
Adrian Huitron conditions the sorrel filly for owner Israel Soliz, Jr. Bred in New Mexico by Gabriel Campan Ortiz, Sure Fire Flyer is out of the Rare Form mare Segura. She has eared $23,971 to date.
Silva Robles homebred Sr Esmeralda chased throughout but had to settle for the $6,462 runner-up check. Abel Morin trains the 3-year-old Red Storm Cat filly out of Lets Get Fiscal, by Stoli. Francisco Calderon was aboard the multiple stakes-placed earner of nearly $30,000.
Toby Keeton saddled Adashinrose for owners Mike Briscoe and Bobby Briscoe. Esgar Ramirez was aboard the homebred daughter of Furyofthewind out of Pats Special Rose by This Too Shall Pass. Already a stakes winner, the 4-year-old filly earned $3,231 to the effort.
Essencia, One Sweet Cartel, Kitty Kat Galore B, Shaker Secret, Kiss The Tears Away, Rock Princess, Twntyfour Karat Rock and Lil Effortless Reign completed the field.
