OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—APRIL 25, 2017—Recent maiden winners Black Onyx and Ivory Noche are among the 62 2-year-olds entered in Friday’s 350-yard John Deere Texas Juvenile Challenge (G3) at Sam Houston Race Park.

Black Onyx is a gelded son of Rock Solid Jess trained by Angel Sanchez for owner Holly Hooper. Black Onyx made his career debut with a three-quarter length victory in a 250-yard, $7,600 maiden-special-weight dash for Texas-breds at Sam Houston on March 31.

Black Onyx drew post 7 and will be ridden by Jose I. Martinez in the first of seven trials.

Ivory Noche races for K & W Land and Cattle Co. from the barn of trainer Brian Stroud. A sorrel son of Ivory James, the gelding is coming off of a wire-to-wire, one-length win in a 350-yard, $7,600 maiden-special-weight sprint at Houston on April 15.

Juan F. Garcia Jr. will ride Ivory Noche from post 5 in the seventh heat.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the May 20, $35,000-added John Deere Texas Juvenile Challenge final.
