Challenge Distance Champion Rare Ed Punches Ticket For Repeat Performance

AUBURN, WA—AUGUST 17, 2017—The 2016 AQHA Distance Challenge Championship(G1) winner Rare Ed punched his ticket for a repeat performance when he ran down Hes A Bugin in the $18,720 Emerald Downs Distance Challenge Stakes Sunday at Emerald Downs in Auburn, Washington.

Ridden by jockey Osvaldo Gonzalez, Rare Ed completed the 870 yards in :46.826 seconds to earn a 96-speed index. The 6-year-old son of Dean Miracle has compiled a (30) 6-9-5 record and used today's $9,360 winners' purse to boost his career mark to $102,797.

Trainer Rodina Barrett saddled Rare Ed for owner Martin Marin. Ronald Martin bred the bay gelding in Illinois from the Corona Cartel mare Ms Corona Jet.

The $105,000-guaranteed Grade 1 AQHA Distance Challenge Championship will be contested on October 14th during the Bank of America Challenge Championship night at Prairie Meadows.

Runner-up Hes A Bugin led down the stretch before giving up a nose to the winner at the wire. Jose Rosales trains the 5-year-old Sixthirteen (TB) gelding for owner Gilberto Madrigal. Jorge Rosales has the riding call on the Oregon-bred out of Missy Nickle Bac by Splash Bac. Bred by Margaret Klinger, he earned $4,025 for the effort.

Easy Movin finished 1-¾ lengths off the leaders to pick up $2,059 for third. Donald David Young owns-and-trains the multiple stakes winning son of Mr Eye Opener from the Meter Me Gone mare Movin Meter. Eduard Gutierrez-Sosa rode the 10-year-old Washington bred gelding. Brenda Hoover is the breeder.

Quattro Dude, Hyho Travio and Bitaheaven completed the field. Leavin My Lover was scratched.
