Distance Challenge: Glittering Blue Teams Up With New Owner

AMERICAN QUARTER HORSE ASSOCIATION—NOVEMBER 14, 2018— In the horse business, sometimes success takes years. But sometimes, it happens fast.

Cody Eagle Bear of Standoff, Alberta, is new to racehorse ownership – so new, in fact, that his $100,000 Cox Ranch Distance Challenge Championship (G1) qualifier, Glittering Blue, is his first racehorse.

While Eagle Bear and his family are involved in horses, his involvement with racehorse ownership is fairly new. He acquired the 10-year-old gelding last year, claiming him in June of 2017 for $3,200.

This year alone, Glittering Blue has earned $12,137, including a daylight victory in the Evergreen Park Distance Challenge, his first stakes victory.

Glittering Blue was bred in Alberta by Rigetti Farms Ltd., and has made an astounding 58 career starts. He has won or placed in 41 of those, and earned $92,295.

He is by Jess Louisiana Blue and out of the On A High mare Glitter Galore, making him a half-brother to stakes winner Runningtofast.

The horse made the long trek from southern Alberta to Southern California, a trip of about 1,500 miles, about five weeks ago, and has settled into the barn of James Glenn Jr.

"I've been able to work him twice, get him used to this place," Glenn Jr. said. "He's doing really good. He knows what's going on. He's won 19 races, there's not a whole lot I can show him." Eagle Bear is looking forward to the opportunity to run in the Grade 1 race; even though he is new to the ownership business, he knows the opportunity to run in an event this big doesn't always happen. But this year, it will happen on Saturday.
