KR Hi Five Aims For Another Challenge Victory At Los Alamitos

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—MAY 24, 2019—Dave and Sally Kidd began KR Hi Five's 2018 autumn campaign having never won a major futurity. By November 17, 2018, KR Hi Five had given the Kidds two major wins at Los Alamitos Race Course.

KR Hi Five will now look to deliver a third stakes victory for the mother and son racing partnership when he headlines the running of the $34,315 Adequan California Derby Challenge at 400 yards here on Sunday night.

Seven sophomores will be in action with the winner of this regional event earning a berth to the Adequan Derby Championship Challenge to be held at Albuquerque Downs as part of the 26th edition of the Bank of America Challenge Championships in the fall of 2019.

One of KR Hi Five's two major wins came during last year's Bank of America Challenge Championships held here when he scored in the $125,000 John Deere Juvenile Championship with Jose Nicasio up for trainer Jaime Gomez.

Three weeks earlier, he posted a 1/2 length win in the $137,000 Wild West Futurity at 350 yards. KR Hi Five is winless in four starts in 2019, but his third place finish in a trial race on March 10 earned him a spot in the $211,000 El Primero Del Año Derby final on March 31 against the likes of Powerful Favorite and Apollitical Pence. KR Hi Five should fit nicely in Sunday's field and figures to be a major contender from post one.

Mesa Valley Farms LLC's Bolt For Gold, the runner-up in the Corona Chick Handicap at 400 yards here last year, and recent allowance winner Sassy Favorite are among the other top contenders. Bolt For Gold is a son of red-hot sire Favorite Cartel and should relish a return to this distance. Loan Sharky, a multiple winner at Los Alamitos, is among the other top 3-year-olds in this event.
