OGDEN, UT—APRIL 17, 2020—Proud Movin Renegade returned to the winner's circle for the first time since last July on Sunday after setting the top qualifying time from two trials contested at Weber Downs for the $30,000-added Adequan® Derby Challenge.
The 10 fastest qualifiers will return to the Weber Downs on Saturday, May 1st to vie for the winner's share of the purse and an invite to participate in the $150,000-est. Adequan® Derby Challenge Championship(G3) October 23rd during Bank of American Challenge Championship Night at The Downs in Albuquerque.
Ridden by jockey Jesus Valenzuela, Proud Movin Renegade defeated fellow qualifier Echo Of Thunder by a neck in the opening trials while recording the top time of :19.881 seconds, a 106 speed index for the 400 yards, The time was just one/hundredth of a second off Rf Noble Sir's track record of :18.880.
Trainer Riley Moosman saddled the multiple stakes winner son of Maknmoves for owner-breeders XG Bar Racing LLC. Out of the Proudest Effort mare Proud Moon Bug, the Idaho Bred gelding has won five of nine career starts and earned $63,907. He won the Bitterroot Futurity(RG3) and was second in the Los Alamitos Wild West Futurity(RG3) last season.
Coming off a layoff after winning a trial for WHR Open Futurity at Sweetwater last August, Jr Highway 93 defeated Cady Shack Creek by a nose in the second trial to get the third fastest time of :20.070 seconds, a 101 speed index.
Owned-and-trained by Owen Udy and ridden by Gerardo Vera, the Nevada-bred son of last year's leading first-crop sire of winners One Fabulous Eagle, has won two of six career starts. Bred by J R Stables, he is out of the Panther Mountain mare Prissy B Panther.
