Fortunes Wild Blood Fastest From Adequan Pocatello Derby Challenge Trials

POCATELLO, ID—JUNE 18, 2021—After two trials for the Adequan Pocatello Derby Challenge, Fortunes Wild Blood emerged as the fastest qualifier in 19.700. The 400-yard, $30,500-added final will be held on June 30.

Fortunes Wild Blood ($14.00) was the winner of the second trial at Pocatello on Friday evening. Nakia Ramirez rode the Apollitical Blood gelding to a narrow victory over second fastest qualifier The Prize Ferarri. Fortunes Wild Blood earned a 103 speed index.

Fortunes Wild Blood finished second in the Adequan Weber Downs Derby Challenge in May and qualified for the Eye on Corona Derby at Laurel Brown later that month. As a 2-year-old, he won the Crush the Curve Futurity at Pocatello, qualified to the Bitterroot Futurity (G3), and finished third in the John Deere Pocatello Downs Juvenile Challenge in the fall. He is four for 13 lifetime with earnings of $34,795.

Second place finisher The Prize Ferarri was the second fastest qualifier in 19.740 with a 102 speed index. Jesus Canales had the call for trainer Mark Hanson and owners RTM Stables, Robin Dunn, Kevin Dunn and Byron Goody.

The Prize Ferarri is a gelded son of The Louisiana Cartel and was bred in Oklahoma by Weetona Stanley. He is out of the Mr Jess Perry mare Ferarri Fast Prize, making him a half-brother to multiple graded stakes winner Ferrari James.

The Prize Ferarri has won five of his nine career starts and has earned over $50,000, all at Pocatello. In his 2-year-old year, he placed second in the Bitterroot and Crush the Curve before winning the John Deere Pocatello Downs Juvenile Challenge.

The third fastest qualifier, Pattys Saint, won the first of two trials in 19.790. Jesus Virgin guided the filly to a half-length victory and a 101 speed index.

Pattys Saint ($5.20) is a homebred for Robert Harrison and is trained by Heath Hillman. She was bred in Idaho, by Jess Got Easier and out of Sp Saint Patty, by Saint Shackleton. She has earned $38,459 in her nine starts and six victories, with multiple stakes victories.

With Friday’s trial win, she has won her last four races, including the WHR Open Futurity at Sweetwater last fall and the Gary and Sharilyn Blattner Memorial Derby at Pocatello in May.
