ALTOONA, IA—JULY 22, 2021—Charles Mitchek’s Last Tres Seis, a stakes-placed son of champion Tres Seis, is one of 15 2-year-olds entered in Monday’s 350-yard John Deere Prairie Meadows Juvenile Challenge trials.
Last Tres Seis has earned $35,037 from two starts, both at Prairie Meadows, and he will be stretching out in distance off of his second-place finish, three-quarters of a length behind winner One Famous Candy, in the 330-yard, $182,000 Prairie Gold Futurity on July 11.
Last Tres Seis was a $31,000 purchase at last year’s Heritage Place Yearling Sale in Oklahoma City. The brown gelding drew post 5 and will be ridden by Stormy Smith for trainer John Hammes in the second of two trials.
Last Tres Seis’ opponents in the second heat include Deutsch, a homebred One Fabulous Eagle gelding owned and trained by Pat Swan. Deutsch has won both of his outs at Canterbury Park, including a 350-yard, $17,500 non-winners-of-two-allowance on July 5, and he has earned $20,400.
Deutsch drew post 6 and will be ridden by Nik Goodwin.
The 10 fastest qualifiers from Monday’s trials will meet in the August 15, $30,000-added John Deere Prairie Meadows Juvenile Challenge final.
