Lil Longmire Uses Clean Trip To Win $52,000 John Deere Idaho Juvenile Challenge

POCATELLO, ID—SEPTEMBER 25, 2022 —Fastest qualifier Lil Longmire got a clean trip on the outside to win the $52,000 John Deere Idaho Juvenile Challenge Saturday afternoon at Pocatello Downs.

Under jockey Jesus Valenzuela, Lil Longmire defeated Eagle Assault by three-quarters as the posttime favorite. The son of leading first-crop sire A Revenant completed the 350 yards in :17.489 seconds, equaling a 101 speed index into a 3 mph crosswind.

Trainer Riley Moosman, who won three stakes on the Sweetwater Downs race card earlier in the day, conditions Lil Longmire for owners Ben Peterson and Larie Hannum.

Spencer Peterson bred the bay filly in Utah from the Carters Cartel mare Dee Zired. She has compiled (4) 3-0-0 record and today's $23,932 winner's purse boosted her bankroll to $26,920.

Lil Longmire also earned a spot in the $125,000-est. John Deere Juvenile Challenge Championship (G2) to be contested during the Bank of America Challenge Championships Saturday, October 23rd at The Downs at Albuquerque.

Runner-up Eagle Assault earned $10,400 for owners Hanson Racing LLC, Larry Chapple, Robin Dunn and Bryon Goody. Weetona Stanley bred the One Famous Eagle gelding in Oklahoma from the Oak Tree Special mare First Prize Joy. Trainer Mark Hanson named Jesus Canales to ride.

Kr Hercules and The Secret Prize dead-heated for third, earning $4,420 each.

Also from the barn of Mark Hanson, The Secret Prize races for RTM Stables, Robin Dunn and Kevin Dunn and Bryon Goody. Nakia Ramirez rode the Hez Our Secret gelding out of First Prize Shaunda by Pyc Paint Your Wagon. Weetona Stanley is the breeder.

Monty Arrossa trains Kr Hercules, a Colorado-bred son of Hes Relentless, for owner Kidd Ranch. Cesar Franco rode the colt out of I Bee Phia by Mr Eye Opener. Sally and Dave Kidd is the breeder.

Empowered To Prosper, Sandstone Senator, Too Taboo, Cuz Hez My Secret, Bac N Action and Wall Streete completed the field.
