Running Dragon is Morning-Line Choice for Sunburst Stakes

SUNLAND PARK, NM—MARCH 30, 2017—State-bred sophomores entered in Saturday’s 350-yard, $85,000 Sunburst Stakes (RG3) at Sunland Park.

A homebred gray daughter of leading second crop sire stallion Zulu Dragon, Running Dragon is trained by Juan M. Gonzalez for owner By By JJ LLC of El Paso, Texas.

The filly brings in a three-race win streak that includes a half-length victory in the January 15, 400-yard Shue Fly Stakes (RG2), and a 1 1/2-length score in the February 19, 400-yard New Mexico Horse Breeders’ Association Stakes (RG2), both at Sunland.

Running Dragon is the even-money morning-line favorite. The filly drew post 6 and will be ridden by Adrian Ramos.

Other contenders include Daniel Nunez’s Princess Jessie Jane, a sorrel Jesse James Jr filly trained by Shae Cox. Princess Jessie Jane will be shortening in distance off of her wire-to-wire, neck victory in a January 27, 400-yard open-condition allowance for New Mexico-bred sophomore at Sunland Park.

Princess Jessie Jane drew post 10 and will be ridden by Esgar Ramirez.
