FARMINGTON, NM—APRIL 25, 2017—Jans Cartel, a homebred daughter of Big Daddy Cartel racing for Denny Crozier of Hobbs, New Mexico, will make her next start in Friday’s 350-yard New Mexico Breeders’ Futurity (RG3) trials at SunRay Park. 

Trained by H.G. "Poppy" Aldavaz, Jans Cartel has earned $19,859 from two starts, and she was a finalist in the April 8, 300-yard New Mexican Spring Futurity (RG2) at Sunland Park. The gray filly drew post 8 and will be ridden by Martin Felix in the second of four trials.  

Jans Cartel’s seven opponents in the second heat include Shirley Grisham’s Purples Miracle, a homebred gray filly by the Dean Miracle stallion Hearts Miracle trained by Ken Grisham. Purples Miracle is a full sister to 2015 New Mexico Breeders’ Futurity (RG3) winner RG Miracle.  

Purples Miracle will be ridden by Jose Ruiz from post 7.  

Frangellica, a gray daughter of Big Daddy Cartel trained by Jose DeHerrera for owner Javier M. Chavez, will make her debut from post 8 in the third heat. A $24,000 yearling purchase at last year’s New Mexico-Bred Sale at Ruidoso Downs, the filly is a half sister to 2012 New Mexico Breeders’ Futurity (RG3) winner Rex Hill.  

Albert Medrano will ride Frangellica on Friday.  

Redd Metal, a sorrel son of Swissle Stick (TB) owned and trained by Alvaro Hinojos, is the 3-1 morning-line favorite in the fourth trial. A half brother to graded stakes winner Junior June Bug and stakes winner Hedge Fund, the gelding was a $6,500 yearling buy at last year’s New Mexico-Bred Sale.  

Redd Metal drew post 8 and will be ridden by Mauro Salcedo.  

The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the May 14, $100,000-est. New Mexico Breeders’ Futurity final.
