FARMINGTON, NM—MAY 22, 2017—A field of eight New Mexico-breds, headed by morning-line favorite Seis Menudos, has been entered in Friday’s 400-yard, $40,000 Jimmy Drake Stakes (R) at SunRay Park.

A 6-year-old Southern Corona gelding trained by Michael Megariz III for owner Eloy Humberto Pena, Seis Menudos will be making his first start since March 4, when he scored an upset victory in the 350-yard, $85,000 Mesilla Valley Speed Handicap (RG2) at odds of 14-1 at Sunland Park. The gelding drew post 2 and will be ridden by J. Martin Bourdieu.

Carson City Girl, a 4-year-old daughter of Woodbridge racing for David and Sandra Barrett, will make her season debut in the Jimmy Drake. Trained by Fred Danley, the mare won last year’s 400-yard, $40,000 New Mexico Breeders’ Stakes (RG3) at SunRay.

Carson City Girl has won four of 13 outs and has banked $203,571. The mare drew post 4 and will be ridden by Alfredo Sigala.

The Jimmy Drake Stakes annually honors the memory of the longtime Farmington resident, who died in 2011. Drake served as president of the New Mexico Horse Breeders’ Association, as well as on the state racing commission from 1980-85, and he was instrumental in the opening of San Juan Downs Racetrack in ’85.
