Speedhorse Futurity, Derby Trials Dominate Fair Meadows’ Saturday Card

TULSA, OK—JULY 14, 2017—Sherry Gilmore’s Ima China Rush, a graded stakes winning daughter of the Agouti stallion Rushago, is one of 79 2-year-olds entered in Saturday’s Speedhorse Futurity (G3) trials at Fair Meadows at Tulsa.

The 10 fastest qualifiers from the eight 350-yard heats will meet in the July 29, $85,000-added Speedhorse Futurity final.

Ima China Rush has has earned $229,014 from four outs, and the homebred filly’s two wins include a half-length victory in the 300-yard, $525,000 Oklahoma Futurity (G3) at Remington Park on March 25. Ima China Rush drew post 10 and will be ridden by Larry Payne for trainer Guillermo Valdivia in the seventh trial.

The Only Knockout, a bay daughter of Apollitical Jess trained by Juan Jose Gomez for owner Five Puig Racing LLC, is the 9-5 morning-line favorite in the sixth heat. The filly will be stretching out in distance off of her third-place finish, three-quarters of a length behind winner Pv Queen Bee Candy, in the 330-yard, $61,800 FL Lady Bugs Stakes (R) for Oklahoma-breds on May 29.

The Only Knockout drew post 4 and will be ridden by Paul Nieto.

Also on Saturday, Born To B Bad, a homebred Freighttrain B gelding racing for Melissa Slayton and Cody Bowling, will make his first-ever start at Fair Meadows in Saturday’s 350-yard Speedhorse Derby trials.

Trained by Tammy Johnson, Born To B Bad is coming off of a third-place finish, one length behind winner Maxx, in the 400-yard, $49,000 Adequan New Mexico Derby Challenge at Ruidoso Downs on July 1. The gelding has earned $98,405 from 12 starts, and he ended his juvenile campaign with a second-place finish, a half of a length behind winner One Proud Eagle, in the 350-yard, $151,000 John Deere Juvenile Challenge Championship (G2) at Los Alamitos.

Born To B Bad drew post 5 and will be ridden by Josh Romero in the first of three trials.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the $25,000-added Speedhorse Derby final on July 29.
